VPN Not Connecting
Summary Your VPN client (Barracuda) will not connect. There are many reasons why the client may not connect and the instructions below will help you try some things before creating an incident. VPN relies on an internet connection, so check and make sure you are connected to the internet. The VPN software does not care where the internet is coming from just as long as you can reach the internet. Employees must have VPN permission for it to work. If you are unsure, please create a ticket to inquire about it. Not all positions are approved for VPN. Approval is through your manager. If you don't have VPN security permission, then submit a request through the IT portal under "Request New Service". Instructions Start fresh and reboot your laptop before trying the steps below. If there is an update, please allow Windows to update. 1. Check your internet. Can you open a web page such as Yahoo? If not, then no internet service is the most likely problem. If you are working from home, do your other devices connect? If so, restart your laptop to see if this fixes the issue. If your other devices work, but not the laptop, ensure the laptop is connected to your WiFi. If it's connected, then your ISP or Router may be preventing VPN traffic. Sometimes a firewall setting will prevent VPN traffic. You're traveling but connected to a guest network. Many guest networks require some type of "Agreement" to use their internet. Make sure you agree to the terms. Guest connections are normally leased, so you may lose connection. If that happens, you'll most likely have to refresh the connection and agree to the terms again. You're visiting another hospital from the company. Corporate employees should automatically connect to the Nobis Corp WiFi, if not, then the laptop needs to be whitelisted. Create a Wi-Fi access request for the hospital you're visiting. If you're an employee from another hospital visiting a hospital, you'll need the laptop whitelisted. Create a Wi-Fi access request for the hospital. 2. If step one did not work for you and the internet is working. As mentioned in the Summary, you may not have security permission for VPN. Please submit a VPN permission request through the IT portal. You are an authorized user, but can't connect. It's possible you locked yourself out. The company uses Auto-unlock, so if it's not connecting, allow 15 minutes before attempting again. If you allowed 15 minutes to pass or you are sure it's not a bad password, please create an incident with IT to further troubleshoot. 3. VPN connection keeps on trying to connect but doesn't connect. The VPN icon turns from clear to blue but stays on blue. The most likely cause is your Duo app is trying to authenticate and you have not approved it. Please check your Duo on your mobile device and approve. Another reason is the data center that it authenticates through is having problems. This will affect everyone and it requires IT to verify the outage. 5. VPN icon turns blue then disappears or turns blue and it allows you to approve, the icon turns green briefly and then disappears. This could indicate a lockout problem with your account. Give it a few minutes and try again. Your account should auto-unlock after 15 minutes. 6. VPN will not connect no matter what you do. It's very possible the VPN software is corrupt. This will require IT to uninstall and reinstall the program. Create an incident with IT for this. The VPN server the company uses could be experiencing problems. VPN issues may not always be announced right away because it's the Users that discover the problem first. Please create an incident with IT and we'll further investigate the issue. It won't take your username and password. It quickly gives you an error. This is most likely from not enrolling in Duo or having Duo on your mobile device. You will need to enroll. Please create an incident. You're able to click "Approve" on Duo, but you get an adapter failed message. This is most likely a corrupted application. It will need to be reinstalled. Create an incident for IT to reinstall VPN. The network you are connected to may prevent the use of VPN. That network may have a firewall that prevents VPN traffic. In this case, there is nothing you can do on that network. You can try a different network or your personal hotspot on your cell phone. No matter what, you still want a good signal for data.
